Age Group Ministries
age group ministries
Families, children, teens, retirees, and homebound adults are all groups in whom we invest our resources in nurturing.
Our youth group comes together from seven different schools in three school systems, and is like a second family to many. Throughout the school year we gather for Bible study and group building on Sunday mornings and evenings. Rec outings are planned monthly and expanded to twice weekly in the summer, along with mission projects and a trip to Passport Youth Mission Camp.
children and families
We intentionally consider the needs of children at various stages of development, providing age-appropriate Bible learning, music development, and training in understanding what we believe and how we live it out together. We encourage children to participate in worship leadership as acolytes, scripture readers, as ushers and more. In the summer, we offer Vacation Bible School - with curriculum carefully selected for its learning value more than its entertainment packaging. We send our 3rd - 6th graders to PassportKids summer camp, which is always a highlight of summer for the congregation. Our Children's Ministry Intern plans diverse activities to nurture growth, including community outreach projects that are family-friendly, and intergenerational sharing events. We are intentional in taking steps to insure safe practices as we care for our younger folks.
Our homebound senior adults are cared for weekly by some of our deacons and by other members of the congregation who love to stay in touch and help with the needs of those who can no longer get out very much on their own. Among our younger retirees, our "Amazing Grays" gather monthly for a covered dish dinner or for an outing to an attraction or noted restaurant.
The Shelter is a four story home across the street from First Baptist which houses students who are largely on their own as they advance themselves toward a college degree and future career. The Shelter is also a college ministry that includes other, non-residential students who wish to share in prayer and Bible study, service and fellowship together. Robert Morris directs this ministry.
